English
Setters are our family`s main hobby. I, Marita Peuhkuri,
MA, a teacher of history and applied sciences, mainly take
care of the dogs. My family members are my husband Matti
and our daughter Katri who was born in 1996 and,
of course, the twins Johanna and Juha who were
born in 1997. |

you can imagine that I have my hands full... |

Since
1995 I have been into English Setters. That is the year
when we got a new family member, an English Setter Tuliketun
Sipisipsu (Am CH Fieldplay`s Key Coloration x Barnsett
Amiable Orange By Fairray). We just called her "Essi".
Essi
did very well in various Dog Shows. Because of that
I got very interested in Dog Shows in which she was
four times the Best of Breed in the Puppy Class. She
was also two times the Best of Breed in the Intermediate
Class. Unfortunately, we lost Essi when she was only
one and a half years old. She really had a fantastic
temperament. And once you got to know her as an excellent
representative of English Setters you couldn`t imagine
to change to another race.
Tuliketun Utu-Keiju, in other words, "Lola",
was so called "made-to-measure dog", because I knew
exactly what I wanted. And I was not mistaken. |

Lola
has those certain characteristics which I always look
for in English Setters: the utmost elegance
and glamour. It is hard to describe, but if
you had a possibility to see her when she is ready for
a Dog Show, you would understand what I mean! Yet at
home her temperament is very peaceful.
We
have been very lucky when Lola and her puppies have
had mainly healthy hips.

| We
began to have also BAER-tests on our
Setters at the year 2000. In fact, we were the very
first pioneers in testing the hearing of the English
Setters in Finland. Deafness is a possible inhereted
disease with breeds who are white when they are born.
Before the first breeding of Lola we had a BAER-test
and later on we tested the whole litter. The litter
"Runo" (born 26-March-2001) is the first ever BAER tested
litter in Finland. We will continue this policy
also in future - we try to use in breeding BAER tested
Setters and all litters in our kennel will be BAER tested.
The
breeding philosophy is: we want to bring something
new and unique to a small Finnish Setter
stock so that it serves the whole race, especially it`s
health. Our breeding philosophy includes also
the following idea: we are ready to invest a
lot, especially our time and brainwork. |
